Read Joe's story below.

We brought this preciouse puppy home July 2003. At the time my boys were watching a lot of the old Roy Rodger and John Wayne movies.  One of their side kicks was Gabby Hayes.  The boys decided that this little side kick of theirs would be Gabby.

I’ve seen Gabby scolding our cat for jumping up to my bird feeder to get birds. It was actually funny. The cat would wait to jump up to catch a bird and Gabby would bark and get all over the cat when it jumped up. I guess he knew that the bird feeder was special to us.

The wonderful thing about Gabby is that he is so trustworthy with the boys. I know that he loves them and keeps a good eye on them.  This summer one of our little calves wandered out onto our neighbor’s pasture. The four boys went over to get the calf and bring it back. A mother cow thought that the children were bothering her calf and came charging. Our son (11) who was with the calf realized the mad mama was onto him and started to run. Our son accidentally fell and the other boys started screaming ”run, run”. Gabby was barking like crazy. Our eldest (12) had him on a leash for training purposes and let him go. According to the boys the mad cow was close enough that while my son was on the ground he actually kicked its head. Just at that moment Gabby came charging in calling the cow off and letting my son get up and away from being injured. All four boys were shook up about what had happened. Joseph said “Mom, Gabby saved my life! He really did!”  Summer 2005

Gabby has such a sweet kindred spirit about him. He is so loving. He loves hugs, kisses and doesn’t mind the four boys hanging on him. Around the animals he has a special touch and care for when one is hurt or not feeling well. He will stand guard over a sick one until he thinks it is okay. The baby goats and chicks that have been part of the farm always get his full attention and care. When the kid goats are born he gets excited and wants to be right there to make sure they are alright. We bring them into the house for the first night and Gabby likes checking in on them. When we have baby chicks he always goes to the garage where we keep them to sniff them out and he seems to count them. When we first put them out into the chicken tractor, he places himself beside them and won’t leave for hours. 2006

It has been 8 years since Gabby joined our family and it has been a privilege to own this great dog!

Gabby is 10 years old now.  He is definitely trying to retire.  He is still Alpha watching and making sure the rules are obeyed. When there seems to be a problem, he will race to the situation and take authority. I am so glad that he is still around to teach the younger dogs and he is doing a great job.  Gabby is so special, being our first Scotch Collie.  He has proven himself over and over. Catching a chicken for us, protecting the chicks, helping with a sick cow, barking at different needs, herding the cows, moving the goats, playing soccer, playing on the trampoline. ….. A wonderful friend and companion. Always there to listen and be hugged. An ever watchful eye over the place, even when you think he is sleeping. He likes to spend more time inside with us especially on colder days.  When I think of what a Scotch Collie should be, I think of Gabby.  I compare my dogs to him and see how they match up.  He will always be very, very special. Fall 2013

Gabby is 12 years old now. The most wonderful dog I have ever known.  So special…. It is my dream to produce another pup like him.  He is my standard for character/ temperament/ looks.  August 2015

Gabby is turning 13 this month.  I know we wont have him to much longer.  His dad made it to 14 years old. He is well cherished by all the family.  Stays inside most of the time with us.  I only hope that someday I can recapture this sweet boys intelligence.  He just learned what to do by observing.  Didn't have to teach him a thing. He just knew.  He just had a special touch. May 2016

September 15, 2017 - We laid Gabby to rest under our oak tree. He will be forever in our hearts and minds.  He was unique and different. A very special dog.
