Oscar is so much like our Gabby, our first old fashion farm dog/ OTSC.  There are many times that we mistake him for Gabby, and will call him Gabby. He has his natural ability /smarts.  His character so much like Gabby. This past spring we got some new baby chicks and wondered how he would do since he has never been around poultry. He immediatly became protective of them. With a little training, (chickens too), we can let the chicken out, and He watches over them. In the evenings, all my husband has to say is, "time to put the chickens up"... Dec 2020

To me Oscar is the perfect dog...my dream dog.  He is so biddable, loving and smart.  He catches on to things very quickly.  He does a great job of keeping our cows off the fences behind our house.  He loves to play fetch. He loves to go for car rides. He guards our property and always lets us know if someone is at our gate. In the house he is the "perfect" gentleman. He loves hugs and kisses. He stays by our sides.  He has the "old" intelligence that Gabby had and what I have been looking for.  He just Knows what to do.  He oversees the animals and if something strange is around he lets us know.  He will quietly lay at our back porch, yet in an instant will be up and off. I can leave the door open and he will sit/lay outside till asked to come in. I love his communicating eyes..... August 2018

I really like this pic taken in 1810 of Duncan's Royal Scotch Collies.  I think Oscar looks a lot like these old collies.

In Sir Gibbie/ The Baronet’s Song by George MacDonald,  there is a Heighland shep dog named Oscar. While re-reading that book this past summer, I decided that would be the name of my new stud pup I would keep.

George Macdonald  lived from 1824-1905.  He was a Scottish novelist, clergyman and author of children’s stories. He was admired by many of his peers for his tender spirituality through his graceful poems and fantastical verse. They rank high among the classics.

Oscar is out of a very special breeding. Once I found out that Sandra Niedrauer (Sojourner's Farm) still had a female dog at home I asked her if I could breed her. Sojourner Pepper was on the Sojourner's farm, but just a pet.  After 3 years of trying, we were finally succesful in getting a litter of 6 pups.

After much deliberations with Sandra, we decided to keep Oscar for our future stud to bring back the 3 Sojourner line together.

Pepper is a very sweet  gentle and loving dog. She is very biddable and aims to please. She adjusted easily in coming to live with us so we could breed her.  Pepper has caught on very quickly to our rules and has done great with our other dogs.  She has helped  some with the cows and has learned to leave our chickens alone.   Her pups will be very special- one time breeding.   May 2015
