Heather is already proving herself as a Scotch Collie.  At 4 months she was already interested in working.  She would “herd” the chickens out of her pen and would stop when they reached their home.  A few times when she was getting a little aggressive, it was easy to call her off.  She is quick to learn and obey.  At 5 months she was already trying to herd the cows and showing no fear.  She is now 7 months old and has quickly learned the rules and ropes around here.  She is very loving, wants to please and loves to do her little jobs.  One of her joys is playing.  She loves to run around Sandy when Sandy has the ball or Frisbee,  making perfect circles.  She is very quick and very agile.  She is learning to fetch a ball and Frisbee when Sandy is not around.  Heather is also a good guardian always alerting us that someone is in our driveway. She readily barks at strangers but is willing to make friends if we say so.  She is related to our Gabby.  Heather’s sire, Diego, is Gabby’s brother one litter later.  Her dam is Xenna.  We plan to breed her in the future.

2011

She is proving to be an excellent dog.  Just the other day I heard the dogs barking so I looked outside and a chicken tractor door had fallen open and Betsy our cow was trying to get to the chicken feeder. (We had let the cows in the back yard to eat the high grass)  Heather was circling like crazy and did get Betsy to move away.  I walked over and put the door back up.  Betsy decided that she wanted to go back and see if the door would open again.  Heather came at her and moved her away by circling the chicken tractor and pushed her between  one chicken tractor and another one that was near.  The door did come back open and this time Gabby stepped on the door keeping Betsy at bay and waited for me to come back to put the door back up, which I did.  Heather watched all this.  Then Betsy and a steer decided to go back out to the field thru the fence.  I walked over to the gate and waited.  Then Heather started barking and pushing the steer to the gate.  He started to turn to walk away from the gate, but she ran around and cut him off and drove him thru the gate.  I closed the gate and our work was done.  She has also become very biddable and comes to my call.  She prefers the back porch and to be next to us than to be in her fenced yard.  She loves to keep the chickens out of the barn and loves to drive and round up the chickens to the chicken tractors when it is time.   So she is turning out wonderful and will produce some great pups.  I hope to breed her in the future.

Spring 2012

I was working in my garden this morning when I heard Heather barking and carrying on.  I looked over towards her and saw that her stance was one to take on a fight, yet she was looking down into the grass.  I thought maybe she had a mole. I walked over to her and there in a striking position was a cottonmouth snake.  I backed her off and ran inside to tell my son to get his gun. He came out and took care of it.  It’s not the first time she has warned us. About a month earlier our son Jason went to the barn to do his chores with Heather beside him. Suddenly Heather yelped after a snake bit her on the paw. She quickly turned around and started barking at the snake.  Jason turned and saw the snake in a striking position.  Seeing she had been bit, he brought her in to be taken care of.  If it had not been for Heather, Jason wouldn’t have known about the snake and it could have been a close call.

June 2012

Heather is a very fun dog.  She loves to play, especially fetch.  She loves to bring us a ball, Frisbee, pine cones, sticks, etc. anything she can play with.  She loves the water and many times throughout the summer, we see her coming back sopping wet from the pond.  She is very quick and a very fast runner.  It is very fun to watch her race through the field.

Several times this summer she was a big help in putting the cows up after they escaped into our back yard.  Fall 2013

I just have to say that Heather has proved to be a wonderful mother.  Giving birth to 10 pups. So guardian and protective of them and staying with them all the time.  Beautiful coloring and sweet temperament.

July 2014

This past spring/early summer the chickens were all out on a hot sunny day.  The dogs were lazily sleeping in the shade and I was out doing some chores.  All of a sudden the chickens that had gathered under our back yard pine tree started squawking something fierce. In a split second Heather was up on her feet, ran over to the chickens and just stood among them in a guardian position.  After a few minutes, the chickens quieted down and Heather went back to her lazy sleeping spot and laid down. That is the wonder of these dogs.

August 2015

We decided that Heather is done with puppies.  She will be 6 next year and think this is best for her.  She has been a great mom. She is a sweet dog, who loves to play Frisbee, Ball, or retrieve anything. She loves to run, play and swim in the pond. She will forever have a very special place in my heart.

October 2016

Heather is now with a wonderful family in New Hampshire.                                                                             2019
